The Best Baby Play Mat That Money Can Buy

Updated on March 9, 2014

Why I Love The Fisher Price Kick And Play Piano Gym, Discover N' Grow

How many baby toys can your baby really play with for a year strait and still love? This is the best baby activity mat, play mat, or play gym that I have ever seen. It grows with your child as your child grows. My son has had this since he was a newborn baby. He enjoyed it then and still enjoys it at 1 years old! I absolutely love this, and have found it to be one of the best baby shower gifts I have ever received. It is made by Fisher Price, a well known and trusted brand. Below you will find my personal review of this, pictures, videos, and more. If you are looking for a great play mat for your baby, or for the mother to be in your life- you should really consider this one!

Why is this the BEST playmat?

Simple...

This it the BEST play mat because it is made to grow with your baby. It functions in a plethora of ways, making it highly adjustable to your child's needs and age. It can serve several different purposes! Lets start with a newborn baby. When my son was a newborn his feet couldn't reach the piano, but he LOVED laying under it and looking up at the mirror and dangling toys. He would lay there for several minutes just staring at himself in the hanging mirror and making noises. Sometimes he'd even fall asleep looking up at the toys.

Most Baby Activity mats that I have seen are geared for more older babies, but the mirror in the center of the dangling toys is perfect for a newborn. There is just something fascinating about looking in the mirror at that stage. When my son was a newborn, I used to lay his boppy pillow on the play mat and let him lay under it. He'd lay there mesmerized by the little toys that hang and dangle. Sometimes he'd even reach up and try to touch them.

Fast forward to a few months, when his little legs started to grow and he could then kick the piano. He had a ton of fun laying under the toys listening to the piano play songs and music as he kicked away. The piano is attached to the baby activity mat. There are a couple of musical settings as well: One is just basic key sounds and the other plays musical key sounds. They light up too, creating fun entertainment for your little one. Don't worry, it's not too loud!

Around the time your baby starts sitting up or crawling, he will not want to lay on his back anymore! So this is where the Kick and Play Piano Gym gets even better! You can easily (with the push of two buttons) turn the piano to an upright position. You can turn it straight up and down so baby can kick it, or you can fold it so baby can sit under it. You can see what I mean in the pictures of my son below. So even as they get bigger, your baby will still be able to sit up and put their legs under the piano and play it in an upright position. My son had the most fun with it this way!

My 1 Year Old Son

Still Loves This Baby Play Gym!

Surprisingly enough, my son is still enjoying this an entire year later! He will grab the top of it, play the piano, drag it around the living room, and even hides his blocks under the piano! So as you can see, this is definitely a baby activity mat that will grow with your child. I have uploaded several more pictures of my son playing with his own Kick and Play Piano Gym below. You can see him when he was a newborn, up until a year old playing with one of his favorite toys!
